CARICOM REMEMBERS RT. HON. GEORGE BRIZAN

(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana) The Caribbean Community (CARICOM) has lauded the former Prime Minister of Grenada, the Rt. Honourable George Ignatius Brizan, CMG, CBE, for his sterling contribution to advancing the democratic principles within the Region.

CXC HELPS REGIONAL NURSING BODY PREPARE THEIR EXAMINATIONS

(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana) The 40th joint meeting of the Executive and Education Committees and 9th Practice Committee of the Regional Nursing Body was convened at the CARICOM Secretariat in Guyana, on 14-16 March, 2012.

The objectives of the meeting were to discuss the assistance from the Caribbean Examination Council (CXC) in the preparation and administration of the Regional Examination for Nurse Registration (RENR) and to review standards of nursing practice and nursing education.

​(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana) Excellency, it is my great pleasure and honour to welcome you to Guyana and to the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) Secretariat, on this historic occasion of the presentation of your credentials as the first Plenipotentiary Representative of the Republic of Singapore to the Caribbean Community. This ceremony today heralds a welcome development in deepening CARICOM-Singapore relations.

​Thank you, Secretary General Larocque, for your kind words. It is a great honour, and a great pleasure as well, to be visiting the region again.

I will keep my remarks brief. Let me simply point out that Singapore has always and continues to value our relationship with the countries of the Caribbean. Our relations with the region date back to 1971, when Singapore and Trinidad & Tobago first established diplomatic relations.

Like many of the CARICOM's member states, we are a small country. And like many of your member states as well, we are a small island state.

CARICOM SECRETARY-GENERAL WANTS A BETTER QUALITY OF LIFE FOR RURAL WOMEN IN CARIBBEAN COMMUNITY

(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana) Caribbean Community (CARICOM) Secretary-General, Ambassador Irwin LaRocque, has called for a recommitment of efforts to provide the enabling environment that would improve the quality of life of rural women.

In statement to mark International Women’s Day 2012, Ambassador LaRocque stressed the importance of addressing the special needs of rural women and girls as this he stated was very important to “Caribbean development, gender equality in the Region and the sustainability of development gains.”
