Soldiers who took legal action against Chief of Staff relieved off duties

Mar 14, 2013

GEORGETOWN, Guyana, CMC – The Guyana Defence Force (GDF) Wednesday confirmed that four officers who sued Chief of Staff, Commodore Gary Best for allegedly refusing to pay them a one-month bonus, have been relieved of their duties with immediate effect. The GDF said the Defence Board issued the instruction “given the serious nature of the matters, its implications, (and) the avoidance of any conflict of interest which may arise” and that the decision to relief the four officers had been taken without prejudice to leave entitlements and pecuniary benefits, until the determination of their matters. It said that the decision also paves the way for the officers to pursue their legal matter.
