SECRETARY GENERAL TO RECEIVE SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT BOOK

Caribbean Community (CARICOM) Secretary-General, Mr Edwin Carrington, will receive a copy of the book AEternal Spring: Living with Enough in a World of Abundance@ from Dr Joseph Edmunds on Wednesday 3 April 2002.

The ceremony will take place in the Large Conference Room at the CARICOM Secretariat=s headquarters, Bank of Guyana Building at 10.30 a.m. The book=s author, Jef Crab, will also be present at the presentation to which members of the Diplomatic Corps have been invited.

Dr Edmunds, former Saint Lucia Ambassador to the United States wrote the foreword to the book which focusses on sustainable development issues and puts forward suggestions at maintaining the balance in the world=s eco-systems.

The book, published with the co-operation of the Honorary Chairman of the Flemish Parliament was presented earlier this year to the governments of Belgium, Holland, Guyana and Suriname as well as to the Secretary-General of the African Caribbean Pacific (ACP) Group of countries.

Mr Crab, Flemish-born, is an ecologist who has served as an advisor to Non-Governmental Organisations on semi-arid farming and is currently co-ordinating a training programme in Suriname on restoration of forests.
