SAINT LUCIA PRIME MINISTER DISCUSSES REGIONAL CLIMATE CHANGE AGENDA

Nov 23, 2008

(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana) Prime Minister of Saint Lucia the Hon. Stephenson King has endorsed the developments undertaken by the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) Secretariat and the Caribbean Community Climate Change Centre (CCCCC) in advancing the Region’s agenda on climate change through the development of a regional climate change strategy.

Prime Minister King made the endorsement when he held discussions with officials of the CARICOM Secretariat, the CCCCC, and the Caribbean Disaster Emergency Response Agency (CDERA) on Sustainable Development, Disaster Management and Water, areas for which he has lead responsibility in the CARICOM Quasi Cabinet.

“Projects such as the Mainstreaming Adaptation to Climate Change Project and the Special Pilot Project on Adaptation Measures in Coastal Areas of Dominica, Saint Lucia and Saint Vincent and the Grenadines are being utilized to demonstrate practical steps that could be undertaken for adaptation and mitigation at both the wider regional level as well as at community level,” the Prime Minister said.

Prime Minister King is expected to take the lead role in engaging fellow Heads of Government and other stakeholders in leading the Region’s charge on climate change issues that are so critical for the survival of the peoples of the Caribbean.
