FOR LONG AND DEDICATED SERVICE CARICOM SECRETARIAT SAYS THANK YOU

The Caribbean Community (CARICOM) Secretariat will confer long service awards on 30 staff members at a simple ceremony at its Headquarters, Bank of Guyana Building today, Friday July 16.

Topping the list of recipients are Ms Myrtle Chuck-a-Sang , who has given 30 years service, and Mr. Rajpaul Singh and Ms Monica Smith, who are on staff for 25 years.

Seven other staffers with 20 years service, 10 with 15 years and another 10 with 10 years service will receive long service awards.

Ambassador Roderick Rainford

Mr. Roderick Rainford was educated at the University of the West Indies where he obtained a degree in Economics in 1963 and then proceeded to study jurisprudence at Oxford University in 1966. In 1971, he undertook studies in international relations at the University of Toronto, obtaining an MA degree. Mr. Rainford's academic background is distinguished by the fact that he is one of a handful of West Indians to have won the Rhodes scholarship. After completing his formal education, Mr. Rainford yielded to the call to gain experience in Africa.

The Third Inter-Sessional Meeting of the Conference of Heads of Government of the Caribbean Community was convened on Wednesday, February 19, at the Jamaica Conference Centre, Kingston, under the Chairmanship of the Rt. Hon. Dr. Kennedy Simmonds, Prime Minister of St. Kitts and Nevis. The following Heads of Government/Heads of Delegations were also in attendance:

The Tenth Meeting of the Conference of Heads of Government of the Caribbean Community was held at Grand Anse, Grenada, from 3-7 July 1989. The Ninth Meeting of the Conference of Heads of Government of the Caribbean Community was held at Deep Bay, Antigua and Barbuda from 4 to 8 July 1988. For the second successive year, and the second time in the history of the Conference, all member States were represented at the level of their Heads of Government. The second meeting of the Mexico-Caribbean Community (CARICOM) Joint Commission was held in Mexico City on 7-8 April, 1988.

The Mexican Delegation was led by Ambassador Miguel Angel Olea Sisniega, General Coordinator of Advisors to the Mexican Secretary of Foreign Affairs. The Caribbean Delegation, in turn, was led by Mr. Roderick Rainford, Secretary-General of CARICOM.
