The International Labour Organization (ILO), in collaboration with the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) Secretariat, launched the consultancy: Free Movement of Persons in the CARICOM Region: Undertaking Labour Market Analysis in the Region to inform the development of a comprehensive labour migration policy for the region.
Tuesday 9 July 2024 (CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown): Trinidad and Tobago’s National Security Minister, the Honourable Fitzgerald Hinds, says the country is committed to contributing to the development of a regional migration policy framework that reflects the priorities of the People of the Caribbean Community.
“Climate change and natural disasters remain key drivers of displacements in the Region with the frequency and magnitude of events likely to increase in the future. This has contributed to many regional states facing demographic decline, which has impacted their workforce, our younger population seeking job opportunities outside the Region and many key sectors being negatively impacted.”
CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana - Friday, 5 July 2024: The CARICOM Secretariat and the CARICOM Implementation Agency for Crime and Security (IMPACS), with technical support from the International Organization for Migration (IOM), will host a critical workshop titled “Towards a Regional Approach to a Migration Policy in the Caribbean—Realizing A Shared Vision” from 8 - 10 July 2024 in Port-of-Spain, Trinidad and Tobago.
The Global Compact for Safe, Orderly and Regular Migration Workshop for the Caribbean was convened 1-2 November 2023 at the United Nations House, Bridgetown, Barbados. Representatives from the Caribbean Community (CARICOM), the International Organization for Migration (IOM) Caribbean, European Union (EU) International Partnerships and regional stakeholders met to further discuss the development of a Regional Migration Policy.
Regional stakeholders have made progress with the development of a Regional Migration Policy, the focus of a workshop on migration in the Caribbean, convened 1-3 November 2023 at the United Nations House, Bridgetown, Barbados.
