CARICOM Secretary-General, Dr. Carla Barnett, delivered the keynote address Friday morning (14 April 2023) at the opening ceremony of a symposium to mark the 50th anniversary of the Caribbean Community being observed this year.

The virtual symposium, titled ‘CARICOM at the Crossroads: Rising to the Challenge of a New Era’, was organised by the CARICOM Secretariat in collaboration with the Institute of International Relations of The University of the West Indies (UWI).

It is a real pleasure for me to be here tonight to celebrate with you as you acknowledge and reward your peers for excellence and service.  I congratulate all the awardees who I am sure would have put in the extra effort to ensure that the job was done.  There is nothing more satisfying than the feeling of a job well done – except of course being rewarded for it!

(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana)     Speaking about the on-going CARICOM Reform Process, Secretary General of the Caribbean Community Ambassador Irwin LaRocque said it had validated the relevance of the CSME as the platform from which to build the Community’s economic resilience.
Ambassador LaRocque was speaking during the opening ceremony of the Twenty-Fifth Intersessional Meeting of the CARICOM Heads of Government in St. Vincent and the Grenadines on Monday.
