Montague talks cyber security with regional security ministers

GUYANA-POLITICS-Opposition politician resigns from minority party

GEORGETOWN, Guyana, CMC – A senior official of the minority opposition Alliance for Change (AFC) has resigned but left open the possibility of returning to active politics in Guyana.

AFC executive member, Sasenarine Singh, said his resignation is of immediate effect and was due to “personal reasons.”

Singh said he wanted to wish the opposition party continued success “as it seeks to lead our people out of underdevelopment and away from the politics of nepotism, crony capitalism and pettiness.

Crimea votes to join Russia, Obama orders sanctions

SIMFEROPOL, Ukraine/ BRUSSELS, (Reuters) - Crimea’s parliament voted yesterday to join Russia, and its Moscow-backed government set a referendum in 10 days, in a dramatic escalation of the crisis over the Ukrainian region that drew a sharp riposte from U.S. President Barack Obama. Obama ordered sanctions on those responsible for Moscow’s military intervention in Ukraine, including bans on travel to the United States and freezing of their U.S. assets.
