RNM DG: ‘CARIFORUM Negotiating Structure/Schedule Endorsed’

KINGSTON, JAMAICA – CARIFORUM-European Union (EU) negotiations for an Economic Partnership Agreement (EPA) were officially launched in Kingston, Jamaica, April 16. The formal CARIFORUM EPA launch commencement proceedings were followed by the First Joint EPA Ministerial Negotiating Meeting, between the two sides, convened the same day.

CARIFORUM/EU Enter New Phase of Negotiations

KINGSTON, JAMAICA – CARIFORUM-European Union (EU) negotiations for an Economic Partnership Agreement (EPA) were officially launched in Kingston, Jamaica, April 16. The launch was hosted by the Government of Jamaica.
The CARIFORUM-EU EPA, which will be the outcome of negotiations launched yesterday - set to come to a close December 2007 – was described by the Prime Minister of Jamaica, the Most Hon. P.J. Patterson, as blending “elements of continuity and elements of change”.

JOINT STATEMENT OF THE THIRD GENERAL MEETING BETWEEN REPRESENTATIVES OF CARICOM AND ITS ASSOCIATED INSTITUTIONS AND THE UNITED NATIONS SYSTEM, 12-13 APRIL 2004, NEW YORK

1.      The Third General Meeting between the United Nations Secretariat, specialized agencies, programmes and funds and the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) Secretariat and associated institutions was convened in New York on 12 and13 April 2004. The CARICOM Delegation was led by Secretary-General, Mr. Edwin W. Carrington. The United Nations Deputy Secretary-General, Ms. Louise Fréchette, opened the meeting on behalf of the UN system. The meeting was attended by a number of senior and other UN officials.
