CARIFORUM-EU LAUNCH CRUCIAL PHASE OF TRADE AND DEVELOPMENT TALKS
The third phase of negotiations for an Economic Partnership Agreement (EPA) between CARIFORUM countries and the European Union was launched today in Saint Lucia.

CARICOM EYES GLOBAL COMPETITIVENESS AS CARICOM SINGLE MARKET DEADLINE APPROACHES

(CARICOM Secretariat, Georgetown, Guyana) As Member States of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) prepare for the full implementation of the CARICOM Single Market (CSM) by 31 December 2005, specific attention is being given to the area of Standards to ensure that CARICOM countries can compete effectively in the international market arena.

Bernal: Qualitative Shift In CARIFORUM-EU Negotiations Imminent

GROS ISLET, SAINT LUCIA – “CARIFORUM-EU negotiations for an Economic Partnership Agreement are at a propitious juncture, having successfully advanced through two preliminary phases. Emerging from the current Regional Integration phase, both sides have a better understanding of their respective economic spaces, as the two regions move closer to docking. We have had a successful Phase II, and stand ready to emerge from it with momentum.

CARIFORUM And EC To Consider Next Phase Of Negotiations

CHRIST CHURCH, BARBADOS – CARIFORUM[1] Trade Ministers and EC officials will meet in Saint Lucia at the end of the month, to review progress in Phase II of Economic Partnership Agreement (EPA) negotiations, provide political instructions on the future orientation of those negotiations and consider issues germane to Phase III. In this regard, the Second CARIFORUM-EC Ministerial Meeting will be convened September 30, preceded by the Fourth CARIFORUM-EC Meeting of Principal Negotiators, September 28.

CARICOM FOREIGN MINISTERS AND US SECRETARY OF STATE DISCUSS REGIONAL CHALLENGES AT UN WORLD SUMMIT

(CARICOM Secretariat, Georgetown, Guyana) Foreign Ministers of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) and United States Secretary of State Dr. Condoleeza Rice held discussions on 14 September, 2005, in the margins of the High Level Segment of the 60th Session of the UN General Assembly. The discussions gave priority to the challenges of disaster mitigation, preparedness and response, in light of the recent devastation caused by Hurricane Katrina and the forecasts for very active hurricane seasons – both in terms of frequency and intensity.
