CARICOM AND KOREA SIGN COOPERATION AGREEMENT

(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana) The Caribbean Community (CARICOM) is poised to receive assistance from the Government of Korea to advance the Region’s Information and Communication Technology (ICT) development agenda.

On Tuesday 2 May, CARICOM and Korea signed a Consultation and Cooperation Mechanism at the CARICOM Secretariat Headquarters in Georgetown, Guyana, formalising bilateral cooperation between the two sides in a number of areas including the use of ICTs for the Community’s development.

COMMUNIQUE ISSUED AT THE CONCLUSION OF THE FIFTH UK-CARIBBEAN FORUM, 26-28 APRIL 2006, BRIDGETOWN, BARBADOS

1. The Fifth UK-Caribbean Forum, hosted by the Government of Barbados, took place in Bridgetown on 26-28 April 2006. The Forum was co-chaired on the Caribbean side by the Hon. Elvin Nimrod, MP, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Trade of Grenada and current Chair of the CARICOM Council for Foreign and Community Relations, and on the UK side by the Rt. Hon. Jack Straw, MP, Secretary of State, Foreign and Commonwealth Office.

CARICOM MOURNS THE PASSING OF MR. WILLIAM “BILLY” PILGRIM

(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana) The Secretary General and Staff of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) Secretariat mourn the passing of Mr. William “Billy” Pilgrim, one of Guyana’s and the Region’s cultural icons.

Mr. Pilgrim recognised, respected, and celebrated the rich cultural history of the Region and worked tirelessly to ensure that this legacy would not only be expressed but also be preserved.
