CARICOM HEADS TO CONSIDER FREE MOVEMENT EXPANSION

  (CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana) A case for the inclusion of artisans, nurses, domestics and teachers to move freely as skilled nationals under the CARICOM Single Market and Economy (CSME), will be presented to Heads of Government of the Caribbean Community when the 27th Regular Meeting of the Conference convenes on 3-6 July in St Kitts and Nevis.

CARICOM 10K ROAD RACE FOR 2 JULY RUN OFF IN ST. KITTS/NEVIS

(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana) St. Kitts and Nevis will be the venue for this year’s staging of the annual CARICOM 10K invitational road race which will take place on Sunday 2nd July, one day prior to the start of the 27th meeting of The Conference of Heads of Government of the Caribbean Community.

The CARICOM Invitational 10K, which has now become a calendar event for athletes in the Region, will feature the best male and female long distance runners from each CARICOM Member State.

REGIONAL MEDIA BRIEFED ON 27TH CARICOM SUMMIT AGENDA

(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana) When Heads of Government of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) meet on 3-6 July in St Kitts and Nevis for the Twenty-Seventh Regular meeting of the Conference, they will take a hard look at a wide range of issues including migration, human trafficking and the changing geo-politics of the Region, as well as the role of energy in their economies.

CONTRIBUTION FORMULA FINALISED FOR DEVELOPMENT FUND

(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana) The establishment of the regional Development Fund has now been assured with the general acceptance by participating Member States of a contribution formula put forward by the Caribbean Development Bank (CDB) and endorsed by CARICOM Ministers of Finance.

NEW CARIFESTA MODEL LAUNCHED IN TRINIDAD AND TOBAGO

(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana) Under the theme Celebrating our People: Contesting the World Stage, a new model for the staging of the Ninth Caribbean Festival of Arts (CARIFESTA 1X) was unveiled on Monday 12 June in Trinidad and Tobago, host country of the largest cultural festival of the Caribbean.

CARICOM CHAIRMAN SATISFIED WITH SINGLE MARKET PROGRESS

CARICOM SETS FRAMEWORK FOR ROLE OF EDUCATION IN HIV/AIDS RESPONSE

(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana) A Special Meeting of the CARICOM Council for Human and Social Development (COHSOD) held in Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago on 9-10 June 2006 agreed on a framework of action for a more positive role of the national and regional educational sectors in HIV and AIDS response.

CARICOM CHAIRMAN ON FIVE COUNTRY MISSION

We, the Ministers of Education of the Caribbean Community, along with representatives of National AIDS Authorities, and other representatives of governments, organizations and agencies participating in the Special Meeting of the Council for Human and Social Development (COHSOD) on Education and HIV and AIDS in Port-of-Spain, Trinidad and Tobago 9-10June 2006;

2. Recall that the Nassau Declaration asserts that the Health of the Region is the Wealth of the Region;
