CARICOM MINISTERS MEET ON EXTERNAL TRADE ISSUES

(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana) CARICOM Ministers with responsibility for Foreign Trade will convene in Bridgetown, Barbados on the 9 September 2006, for the Seventeenth Special Meeting of the Council for Trade and Economic Development (COTED). The focus of the one-day meeting will be on External Trade Negotiations.

All set for Launch of CARIFESTA Month in Trinidad and Tobago

(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana) All is set for the launch of Caribbean Festival of Arts, CARIFESTA Month on 1 September 2006 in thirteen administrative districts of Trinidad and two administrative districts in Tobago. This exciting national initiative will capture 54 villages in a series of national celebrations leading towards the official opening of CARIFESTA IX on 22 September 2006.

CARICOM Secretary-General Mourns the Passing of Sir Clyde Walcott

It is with deep sadness that the Caribbean Community notes the passing of one of its truly great sons, Sir Clyde Leopold Walcott.

Sir Clyde’s achievements in the world of cricket, as player, coach and administrator is unmatched in the West Indies. History will record Sir Clyde Walcott’s pioneering ascendancy to the Presidency of the West Indies Cricket Board as well as to the Chairmanship of the International Cricket Council (ICC), the game’s governing body.

MET INSTITUTE GETS NEW HEAD

Caribbean Gathering At AIDS Conference Stress Universal Access

(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana)The future strategy of the Pan Caribbean Partnership Against HIV/AIDS (PANCAP), must place emphasis on universal access to HIV/AIDS prevention, care and treatment.

This was the view of more than 150 delegates representing member countries and organisations of PANCAP attending a Caribbean Gathering held as one of the side events at the 16th International HIV/AIDS Conference in Toronto.
