Canadian Minister attends 46th Regular CARICOM meeting and announces new funding for multiple Caribbean countries

(Global Affairs Canada Press Release) The Honourable Ahmed Hussen, Minister of International Development, today concluded a 2-day trip to Guyana, where he represented Canada at the 46th Regular Meeting of the Conference of Heads of Government of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM). This visit builds on the success of the Canada-CARICOM Summit, held in Ottawa from October 17 to 19, 2023, and reinforces Canada’s strategic partnership with the region.

“In this Region, we owe it to the generation ahead of us to keep our culture alive and to invest in culture because culture is what distinguishes us from any other region …We do not need lyrics that promote violence in this Region. We have the ability to promote good lyrics and lyrics that move people in a positive direction”, so said CARICOM Chair, H.E. Dr Mohamed Irfaan Ali, as he delivered the feature address at the opening ceremony of the Forty-Sixth Regular Meeting of the Conference of Heads of Government of CARICOM on Sunday 25 February 2024.

CARICOM Foreign Ministers, U.S. and Canadian Officials meet ahead of CARICOM Summit

CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana, Monday, 26 February 2024:    Caribbean Community (CARICOM) Foreign Ministers advanced discussions with high-level officials from the United States of America and Canada on Sunday, 25 February at the CARICOM Secretariat, ahead of the 46th Regular Meeting of the Conference of CARICOM Heads of Government.

Congratulatory Message to Saint Lucia re 45th Independence Anniversary

The Caribbean Community (CARICOM) Secretariat presents its compliments to the Ministry of External Affairs, International Trade, Civil Aviation and Diaspora Affairs of Saint Lucia, and has the honour to request the latter’s kind assistance in having the following congratulatory message from Dr. Carla N. CARICOM SG accredits three new ambassadors

CARICOM Secretary-General, Dr Carla Barnett accredited three new ambassadors on Tuesday 20 February at the Headquarters of the Community in Georgetown, Guyana.

Earlier in the day, Dr Barnett first accepted the letters of credence of His Excellency Cornelis Hersbach from the Kingdom of the Netherlands.

Knowledge Hub launched for 46th CARICOM Heads of Government Meeting

CARICOM Sends Condolence Message on The Passing Of Justice Jacob Wit

(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana - Wednesday, 17 January 2024) -  The Caribbean Community (CARICOM) has learnt, with deep sadness, of the passing of His Honour Justice Jacob Wit, esteemed Judge of the Caribbean Court of Justice (CCJ). 

Justice Wit served the Community and the wider legal profession in our Region with distinction and passion for 18 years, before retiring from the CCJ in December 2023. 

CARICOM Congratulates Haiti on Independence Anniversary

The Caribbean Community (CARICOM) has congratulated Haiti on its Two Hundred and Twentieth Anniversary of Independence which it celebrates on 1 January 2024.

Secretary-General Dr Carla Barnett sent the following congratulatory message to the Prime Minister of Haiti, H.E. Dr Ariel Henry:
