APPLICATIONS FOR CARICOM VISA FOR CWC 2007 ON THE RISE

(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana) In just one month, there were more than 7000 applications for the Special CARICOM Visa which is required by nationals of some countries to visit 10 Caribbean countries as the world prepares to flock to the Region for the ICC Cricket World Cup (CWC) 2007.

Over the last two days, we have had a most productive and engaging meeting – the first of its kind, bringing together the Sub committees responsible for the CSME and external trade negotiations.

I am encouraged by the unity of purpose and the level of commitment demonstrated by all participants.  I want to pay particular tribute to the Prime Minister of Barbados who co-chaired the meeting as well as to Prime Minister the Hon. Ralph Gonzalves, CARICOM Chairman and the Prime Minister of Trinidad and Tobago, the Hon Patrick Manning. 

PEOPLE-CENTRED DEVELOPMENT CRITICAL TO CARICOM

(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana) Leaders of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) meeting in Jamaica said the 15-member grouping needed to embrace a new way of thinking, and focus on people-centred development and poverty alleviation.

Prime Ministers underscored those positions when they addressed the opening ceremony of the Joint Meeting of the Prime Ministerial Sub-Committees on External Trade Negotiations and the CARICOM Single Market and Economy (CSME) at the Ritz Carlton Hotel in Montego Bay, Jamaica, on 5 February 2007.

PRIME MINISTERIAL FORUM TO FOCUS ON CSME, EXTERNAL TRADE RELATIONS

(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana) Two Prime Ministerial sub-committees of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) meet in Jamaica 5-6 February, to forge strategic positions on the key issues of the CARICOM Single Market and Economy (CSME) and External Trade Relations.

Jamaica Prime Minister, The Most Hon, Portia Simpson-Miller will host the Joint Meetings at the Ritz Carlton Resort and Golf Club in Montego Bay, Jamaica.
