CARIBBEAN TRADE MINISTERS, WTO DIRECTOR-GENERAL TO MEET IN JAMAICA

(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana) CARICOM Secretary-General, H.E. Edwin Carrington will lead a delegation from the Secretariat to participate in landmark meetings with Mr. Pascal Lamy, Director General of the World Trade Organisation (WTO) and Caribbean Ministers of Trade, in Kingston, Jamaica April 12 and 13. The Caribbean Regional Negotiating Machinery (CRNM) and the Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS) will also participate in the discussions on strategies aimed at adding political impetus to re-start suspended global free trade talks.

CLIVE LLOYD NOW A ‘CHAMPION FOR CHANGE’

(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater, Georgetown, Guyana) Secretary General of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) H.E. Edwin Carrington on Tuesday April 3, 2007, invested cricket legend Clive Hubert Lloyd with the title `Champion for Change’ in the fight against HIV and AIDS, with special reference to the reduction of stigma and discrimination.

The conferral ceremony was held at the CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana.

CARICOM REFLECTS ... NEVER FORGET

(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana) Chairman of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) and Prime Minister of St Vincent and the Grenadines, Dr the Hon Ralph Gonsalves has called upon the Community to use the occasion of the Bicentenary of the Abolition of the Trans-Atlantic Slave Trade as an opportunity to teach the younger generation of the region, the history, the lessons and the effects of slavery and to ensure that this tragedy “is never again experienced in old or new forms.”

CARICOM CHAIRMAN TO PUSH PROGRESS ON FUNCTIONAL COOPERATION

CARICOM SECRETARY-GENERAL AWARDED ITALY’S ORDER OF MERIT

(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana) Caribbean Community (CARICOM) Secretary-General H.E Edwin Carrington received today, Italy’s Order of Merit, Commander Class in an impressive ceremony at the Headquarters of the CARICOM Secretariat, Guyana. The bestowal was made by Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Italy, Honourable Vittorio Craxi.

ITALIANS SEEK CARICOM SUPPORT FOR 2015 EXHIBITION BID

(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana)  An eight-member delegation from Italy yesterday visited the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) Secretariat to seek the Region’s support for that country’s bid to host the 2015 Universal Registered Exhibition in Milan under the theme `Feeding the Planet: Energy for Life’.

The delegation, led by Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, the Honourable Vittorio Craxi presented, for the first time in South America, the bid in the form of a short documentary.
