CARICOM, World Food Programme Introduce New Caribbean Food Security Tracker

Caribbean storms show urgency of rethinking aid for small island states

A series of devastating storms in the Caribbean has highlighted the vulnerability of small island states, where a single hurricane can undo years of development and plunge prosperous households into poverty from one day to the next.

Hurricane Irma turned 90 percent of homes on Barbuda to rubble and left financial losses of USD 100-200 million. Hurricane Maria has knocked out power to the entire US territory of Puerto Rico.

CARICOM active at CELAC Summit

(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana)     The Member States of the Caribbean Community (CARCOM) played an active role during the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States Summit (CELAC) on 28-29 January 2014 in Havana, Cuba, on the theme “Eradication of Hunger, Poverty and Inequality”.
This also applied to their role during the preceding preparatory meetings of National Coordinators on 25-26 January and of Foreign Ministers on 27 January.

We, the representatives of the Fifteen States of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM),

 

 

Having met in Pétion Ville on 5 and 6 December 2013 for the High Level Ministerial Meeting on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities;

 

Recalling the decision of the Heads of Government of the Caribbean Community, meeting in July 2013, that priority attention be given to the concerns of persons with disabilities;
