PM Douglas says ALBA can improve important sectors of the region

Dec 15, 2014

BASSETERRE, ST. KITTS, DECEMBER 15TH 2014 (CUOPM) – St. Kitts and Nevis’ Prime Minister the Rt. Hon. Dr. Denzil L. Douglas has described the Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of Our America (ALBA) as an example of cooperation to improve health care, education, culture and finance, and to show that there is an alternative way for human development.

Speaking at the 13th Summit in Havana, the Cuban capital, Prime Minister Douglas pointed out that St. Kitts and Nevis recognizes ALBA as an institution to expand cooperation and integration among southern nations.

Dr. Douglas noted that the bloc is the means through which the countries of the region continue fighting for sustainability and prosperity, as they have the shared vision that collaboration will be instrumental to overcome the obstacles and meet the challenges to achieve stability and development.

ALBA is the alternative path, he noted.

Russian President Vladimir Putin said Russia will continue to expand relations with countries of the Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of Our America (ALBA).

“We highly appreciate the constructive line of the ALBA States related to the international issues; we share their fidelity to the principles of a fair and democratic world order,” Putin said in a message to Cuban leader Raul Castro on the occasion of an ALBA summit in Havana on Sunday.

ALBA was founded in 2004 by then Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez and former Cuban leader Fidel Castro.
