PAN Caribbean Partnership Against Aids Selected as International Best Practice

The Pan Caribbean Partnership Against HIV/AIDS (PANCAP) will this week be officially designated an "International Best Practice" by the United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS) during a Press Launch of the publication: Common Goals, Shared Responses: A Case Study on the Pan-Caribbean Partnership Against HIV/AIDS (PANCAP). The publication, produced jointly by the UNAIDS and Caribbean Community (CARICOM) Secretariats, will be launched at the Half Moon Hotel, Montego Bay, Jamaica, on 13 December 2004 at 5.00 p.m.

COURTNEY WALSH AND OTHER CHAMPIONS PLEDGE TO FIGHT TO REDUCE HIV/AIDS-RELATED STIGMA AND DISCRIMINATION

Under the theme - Champions for Change - a Conference, hosted by the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) in partnership with the Caribbean-led Pan Caribbean Partnership Against HIV/AIDS (PANCAP) and the United Kingdom Department For International Development (DFID), was held in St. Kitts and Nevis on 22-24 November 2004. The purpose of the Meeting was to share International Best Practices on reducing stigma and discrimination against people living with HIV/AIDS (PLWHA).

CHAMPIONS FOR CHANGE: CARICOM/UK MEETING SEEKS TO END HIV STIGMA

(CARICOM Secretariat, Georgetown, Guyana) A three-day conference under the theme, Champions for Change, involving at least one Caribbean Community (CARICOM) Prime Minister, Ministers of Government, health officials and civil society representatives from the Region as well as the United Kingdom opens in St. Kitts on Monday, November 22.

CARICOM JOINS FIGHT AGAINST HIV/AIDS STIGMA

(CARICOM Secretariat, Georgetown, Guyana) Secretary General of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM), Mr. Edwin Carrington has issued a call for all persons in the CARICOM Region to strive to control the scourge of HIV/AIDS, and to give hope to persons living with the disease.

PANCAP LAUDED AS INTERNATIONAL BEST PRACTICE IN THE FIGHT AGAINST HIV/AIDS

Under the theme - Leadership in Partnership - the CARICOM-led Pan Caribbean Partnership against HIV/AIDS (PANCAP) held its Fourth Annual General Meeting from 21-23 October 2004 in Barbados.

The Meeting was managed by a rotating Chairmanship of distinguished Ministers of Health including: Hon. Jerome Walcott, Barbados; Hon. John Maginley, Antigua and Barbuda; Hon. John Junor, Jamaica; Hon. Damien Greaves, Saint Lucia; and Dr. the Hon. Douglas Slater, St. Vincent and the Grenadines.

It is my pleasure to bring greetings to the Chairman and delegates at the Opening Ceremony of the Fourth Annual General Meeting of the Pan Caribbean Partnership Against HIV/AIDS (PANCAP). I regret that I cannot be physically present, but this is largely due to the fact that St. Kitts and Nevis is in the terminal stages of its general elections scheduled for 25th October (just four days away).

CARICOM RECEIVES GRANT FROM THE WORLD BANK TO SUPPORT WORK ON HIV/AIDS

A US$9 Mn World Bank Grant Agreement to support the work of the Caribbean Community-led Pan Caribbean Partnership Against HIV/AIDS (PANCAP) was signed on Wednesday, 28 April 2004 during the Opening Ceremony of the Tenth Meeting of the Council for Human and Social Development (COHSOD), being held at the Tobago Hilton, Trinidad and Tobago.

Signing on behalf of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) was H.E. Mr. Edwin Carrington, Secretary-General of CARICOM, and on behalf of the World Bank Ms. Caroline Anstey, Director, Latin America and the Caribbean Region.
