Opposition blasts government over legislation

Jan 07, 2013

SCARBOROUGH, Tobago, CMC - The Tobago Council of the People’s National Movement (PNM) Friday condemned what it termed “the cynical and vulgar manner” in which the coalition People’s Partnership government of Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar is dealing with the issue of self-government for the sister isle.
Prime Minister Kamla Persad Bissessar, who heads the four-party coalition that includes the Tobago Organisation of the People (TOP) that is seeking to end the 12-year rule of the PNM in the sister isle, said  new legislation for greater autonomy would be introduced in the Trinidad and Tobago parliament on January 7 with the debate starting on January 17.
She told TOP supporters at the launch of its 12 candidates for the THA election on January 21 that Cabinet in October had considered all the recommendations during consultations with Tobagonians and has drafted the Constitutional (Amendment) (Tobago) Bill 2012.
