On Dominica’s Forty-Sixth Anniversary of Independence, CARICOM SG recognises Dominica’s valuable contributions to the Region and its pursuit of sustainable development goals

Nov 03, 2024

As the Commonwealth of Dominica celebrates the country’s Forty-Sixth Anniversary of Independence today, 3 November 2024, CARICOM Secretary-General Dr Carla Barnett has recognised the country’s unwavering commitment to harness its resources in pursuit of sustainable development. According to Dr Barnett, the leadership of the Prime Minister, the Honourable Roosevelt Skerrit, in the CARICOM Quasi-Cabinet, and his efforts in the area of Labour (including Intro-Community Movement of Skills) have been critical to the integration process. The Secretary-General conveyed these and other sentiments in a message to the Prime Minister, which is reflected below:

Begins:

Prime Minister,

The Caribbean Community (CARICOM) extends heartfelt congratulations to the Government and People of the Commonwealth of Dominica on your Forty-Sixth Anniversary of Independence on 3 November 2024. Celebrated under the theme “Peyi Nou, Kado Nou”- “Our Country, Our Gift”, this Anniversary of Independence speaks to the unwavering commitment of Dominica to harness its resources in pursuit of sustainable development.

The Government and People of Dominica have made valuable contributions to the Caribbean region and the global community. Your leadership in the Quasi-Cabinet of CARICOM Heads of Government for Labour (including Intra-Community Movement of Skills) is a critical contribution to the integration process, and your commitment has strengthened the collective effort to achieve a “Community for All”.

Dominicans continue to excel and impress in the creative industries, music, arts, sports and diplomacy. The exceptional performance of Ms. Thea LaFond at the 2024 Summer Olympics in securing Dominica's first Olympic gold medal in the women's triple jump, underscores the country’s growing athletic talent.

CARICOM is pleased to join the Commonwealth of Dominica in celebrating another milestone, as you continue to pursue achieving the sustainable development targets and the aspirations of your people.

Please accept best wishes for continued peace, well-being and prosperity.
