CAL staff angry as top executive orders US$20,000 trip for 19 ‘friends’

PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad - Vice-chairman of Caribbean Airlines Ltd (CAL) Mohan Jaikaran is proving the state enterprise is not cash-strapped, as he has requested 19 complimentary airline tickets for a Mother’s Day concert scheduled for New York City and Toronto this weekend, of which he is a co-promoter. The directive caused raised eyebrows among management, as two weeks ago there were reports that the national carrier had once again turned to the Government for funding, to the tune of $100 million.

Gov’t to discuss Air J fallout with CAL team

KINGSTON, Jamaica - A high-level team from Trinidad and Tobago is to arrive in the island in a few weeks to hammer out an arrangement with the Jamaican Government over recent actions relating to Caribbean Airlines (CAL), including the carrier's plan to drastically reduce flights to Jamaica.

Jamaica, T&T and Barbados placed on Intellectual Property Watch List

KINGSTON, Jamaica - JAMAICA is among 30 trading partners of the United States of America placed on a 2013 Intellectual Property Watch List, described as "meriting bilateral attention to address underlying Intellectual Property Rights problems". It joins Barbados, Belarus, Bolivia, Brazil, Bulgaria, Canada, Colombia, Costa Rica, the Dominican Republic, Ecuador, Egypt, Finland, Greece, Guatemala, Israel, Italy, Kuwait, Lebanon, Mexico, Paraguay, Peru, the Philippines, Romania, Tajikistan, Trinidad and Tobago, Turkey, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan and Vietnam.

Diplomatology: We’re not ready

PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad - Last Friday, Malay Mishra, India’s High Commissioner to T&T, arrived from Grenada on Liat flight 727. No immigration forms were issued on the flight, and everyone, flight crew included, had to fill out the required forms on entry at the Piarco Terminal. What happened after Mr Mishra entered the building remains almost perfectly inexplicable. First female Governor General sworn into office

ST. GEORGE’S, Grenada, May 7, CMC – The first ever female Governor General of Grenada was sworn into office on Tuesday with Prime Minister Dr. Keith Mitchell saying that her inauguration serves as a “beacon of hope that can inspire a whole nation”.
Former head of the Public Service Commission, Dr. Cecile La Grenade, took the oath of office before Justice Margaret Price-Findlay and becomes the second woman to be head of state of Grenada, Carriacou and Petit Martinique.
