Successes in Region's Food Security Initiative

Ambassador David Prendergast, Director, Sectoral Programmes at the CARICOM Secretariat, has highlighted the positive results of the Caribbean Community’s (CARICOM) 25 x 2025+5 Initiative.

He identified the key advancements in the approval and implementation of the Trade Policy for Animal and Animal Products (TPAAP), Regional Agricultural Health and Food Safety Policy, Sanitary and Phyto Sanitary (SPS) Guidelines for Trade in 19 special agricultural commodities, and the Alternate SPS Dispute Settlement Mechanism.

ARRIVAL STATEMENT | CARICOM ELECTION OBSERVATION MISSION (CEOM) TO THE REPUBLIC OF SURINAME

Heads of Government of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) have committed to supporting Member States, on their request, by providing an independent, impartial and honest assessment of the preparations for and conduct of General Elections. In this context, the Government of Suriname invited the Caribbean Community to deploy a CARICOM Election Observation Mission (CEOM) to observe the conduct of General Elections to be held on 25 May 2025.

CARICOM, Partners Continue Collaboration to understand State of Caribbean Food Security  

The Caribbean Community (CARICOM) through its continued partnership with the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP), the Caribbean Disaster Emergency Management Agency (CDEMA) and the Food and Agriculture Organisation of the United Nations, is conducting another round of data collection for the Caribbean Food Security and Livelihoods survey.  

First introduced in 2020 during the COVID-19 pandemic, the survey collects data from respondents across the English- and Dutch-speaking Caribbean.

COTED officials meet to prepare for Ministerial session in June

Preparations have begun for the 60th Meeting of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) Council for Trade and Economic Development (COTED), which will be held early next month in Georgetown, Guyana.

Under the chairmanship of Honourable Kerrie Symmonds, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade of Barbados, regional ministers responsible for trade and economic development will meet 10-11 June.

Ministers reflect on Special COTED on the environment and sustainable development

Environment and Sustainable Development Ministers of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) met in a special session of the Council for Trade and Economic Development (COTED) in Antigua and Barbuda, 30 April 2025.

The Hon. Sir Molwyn Joseph, Minister of Health, Wellness, Environment and Civil Service Affairs of Antigua and Barbuda, chaired the one-day meeting, which deliberated on regional environmental and natural resources governance, and sustainable ocean-based economic development.
