LETTER TO THE EDITOR, STABROEK NEWS, 9 JUNE 2007: CHARTER OF CIVIL SOCIETY

Jun 11, 2007

(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana)  The Caribbean Community (CARICOM) Secretariat wishes to thank Mr. Bryn Pollard for his letter to the Editor, Stabroek News on Saturday, 9 June 2007 entitled `National Committees are Vital to the Implementation of the Charter of Civil Society’. In stating that “Article 4 of the Charter mandates every Member State adopting the Charter to establish a National Committee”, he makes the seminal point. The rest, including the composition and functions of the Committee follows.

Finally, his opinion that “it is within the competence of the representatives of the social partners and even their duty to advocate strongly for the early establishment of the National Committees” is most welcome.
