CARICOM Heads of Government continue to be actively concerned about the implications of crime and violence on the social development of the Region. To date, two symposiums on Crime and Violence as a Public Health Issue have been convened, keeping at the forefront of the deliberations the importance of balancing the rights of the individual and the public safety interests of the whole of society.

International Women's Day 2025: For ALL Women and Girls: Rights. Equality. Empowerment

On Saturday, 8 March, the CARICOM Secretariat will join the world to celebrate International Women’s Day 2025, themed “For ALL Women and Girls: Rights. Equality. Empowerment."

As part of the celebration, the Secretariat is pleased to highlight the stories of two incredible women who have overcome challenges to make indelible contributions to health sector development and food security.

I have the honour to speak on behalf of the fourteen Member States of the Caribbean Community on the priority theme: “Challenges and achievements in the implementation of the Millennium Development Goals for women and girls”. CARICOM associates itself with the statements delivered by the distinguished representatives of Bolivia on behalf of the G77 and China, and Costa Rica on behalf of CELAC.

International Women’s Day celebration galvanizes top-level political and grassroots support for change

(New York) At a high-powered UN event today to commemorate International Women’s Day, top international leaders called for full realization of women’s rights in the 21st century.

 

UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon:  “To every girl born today, and to every woman and girl on the planet, our message is that human rights are not a dream. They are they are a duty for which we must all work until they are universally realized.”

The Secretariat is honoured and privileged to salute the women and girls of the Caribbean Community on the occasion of International Women’s Day 2014.  This year’s United Nation’s theme ‘Equality for Women is Progress for All’, is one that we can all embrace as we examine our progress toward meeting the 2015 Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) and, in particular, Goals 3 and 5 relating to gender equality and maternal health respectively.

This is a day that gives voice to the struggle for equality by women everywhere regardless of nationality, race, colour, religion or other differences.
