MONTEGO BAY—Anyone interested in the development of the Internet in Caribbean may have already heard of CaribNOG, the Caribbean Network Operators Group. Over the past decade, this volunteer-based community of computer engineers has grown into a formidable influencer in the regional technology arena. Today, its twice-yearly regional gatherings are among the most highly anticipated events on the Caribbean’s tech calendar.

Caribbean Nations Sign off on Cyber Crime Action Plan

Priority areas in the action plan include training, legislation, technical capacity and law enforcement. Caribbean countries have sign off on a plan of action to strengthen regional co-operation and help governments address cyber security vulnerabilities. It follows a five-day meeting in Saint Lucia that brought together legislators, cyber security experts and international law enforcement bodies such as Interpol.

Female entrepreneurs to receive training in Digital Marketing

  At least twenty female entrepreneurs will receive training in Digital Marketing under the Saint Lucian Women & Girls in ICT Campaign, which is a joint initiative of the Saint Lucia Coalition of Services & Industry (SLCSI) in collaboration with the Caribbean Regional Communications Infrastructure Program (CARCIP).

Caribbean to tackle escalating cybercrime with regional approach

CASTRIES, St Lucia -- Commonwealth ministers, policymakers and cybersecurity experts are currently gathering in St Lucia for a three-day meeting (16-18 March) to tackle rising cybercrime in the Caribbean. The meeting will provide a platform for participants to address challenges and develop a coordinated regional action plan to prevent cybercrime and improve cybersecurity. This will involve setting up a virtual platform to share expertise and best practice.

“I drew inspiration from my friend’s story,” noted Mackenson Pierre, the company’s director. “He needed to buy a bus ticket.”

The Secretary-General expressed his appreciation in a message to Prime Minister Dr. Keith Mitchell on the occasion of Grenada’s 42nd Independence anniversary observed on 7 February.
