(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana)     ICT and Human Resource Development fused together could be the catalyst to enhancing prospects for sustainable growth and development for CARICOM. That was the sentiment expressed by Prime Minister of Grenada Dr. the Rt. Hon. Keith Mitchell at the opening ceremony for the forty-eighth (48th) Special Meeting of the Council on Trade and Economic Integration (COTED) on Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) in Grenada on Friday.

(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana)     Ministers and delegates to the Caribbean Community’s Council for Trade and Economic Development (COTED) on Information and Communications Technology (ICT), led by the Prime Minister of Grenada, Dr the Rt Honourable Keith Mitchell, were given a demonstration of the cutting edge of technology in the Region.

(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana)     When Caribbean Community (CARICOM) Ministers responsible for trade meet in Georgetown at week’s end, a major undertaking will be charting the strategic direction of the Council for Trade and Economic Development (COTED).

GEORGETOWN, Guyana -- The use of information and communication technologies (ICTs) within the agriculture industry is a tool for changing the agricultural sector in the Caribbean.

Speaking at the launch of a two-day workshop entitled “Strengthening ICTs in Agricultural Value Chains – Towards increased integration in ICTs for growth and productivity”, Michael Hailu, director, Technical Centre for Agriculture and Rural Development (CTA) said, the use of ICTs creates “huge opportunities for farming communities and young people”.

The Caribbean Community is transforming its agricultural sector into a competitive and sustainable system of agricultural production and services in which ICTs will play a vital role.
