Today, the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) Secretariat joins with the rest of the world in commemorating International Day of Women and Girls in Science, under the theme “Women Scientists at the forefront of the fight against COVID-10”.
International Day of Women and Girls in Science is celebrated each year on 11 February and is an initiative backed by the United Nations, to encourage the participation of more women and girls in the Science.

Grenada Prime Minister, Dr. The Rt. Hon. Keith Mitchell, has called for regional leaders to adopt a new strategy towards achieving digital transformation.
Sitting in Grenada, Prime Minister Mitchell was addressing the 23rd General Conference of Ministers of the Caribbean Telecommunications Union (CTU) on Tuesday, 22 September 2020. Dr Mitchell is the Lead Head of Government in the CARICOM Quasi Cabinet who holds responsibility for Science and Technology, including ICT.
The COVID-19 pandemic has catapulted the Region into the future, as far as the jobs landscape was concerned, regional business leader and author, Mr. Wayne Chen, said Wednesday.
He was at the time speaking during a three-hour CARICOM Digital Dialogue hosted by the CARICOM Girls ICT Partnership. It was held via the Zoom and Facebook platforms under the theme ‘Jobs, work and opportunities in the post-COVID-19 Caribbean’.
Following the hugely successful inaugural CARICOM Digital Dialogue, the CARICOM Girls in ICT Partnership will host another regional virtual session on 27 May 2020.

International Girls in ICT Day, an initiative backed by all ITU Member States in ITU Plenipotentiary Resolution 70 (Rev. Dubai, 2018), aims to encourage and empower girls and young women to consider studies and careers in the growing field of ICTs, enabling both girls and technology companies to reap the benefits of greater female participation in the ICT sector.
The Caribbean Single ICT Space is an ambitious undertaking that will transform the region’s ICT space as we know it. However, as important as that project is, most people have no idea what it is about, or what to expect. To help us get in the know, Jennifer Britton, of the CARICOM Secretariat, explains what the Single ICT Space is all about, shares with us a few of the upcoming milestones, and why it is crucial for the countries of the region to also transition to a digital economy.
