PANCAP 2018 World AIDS Day Message: KNOW YOUR STATUS

 This year’s World AIDS Day theme “Know your status” encourages us to be tested to know whether we are HIV negative or positive. This theme is very relevant as the world has committed to Fast Track actions towards achieving the 90-90-90 treatment targets by the year 2020. The UNAIDS 2018 Global AIDS Monitoring (GAM) report informs us that there are an estimated 310,000 adults and children living with HIV in the Caribbean, of which nearly 55,000 are unaware that they have HIV. 
 

Trinidad and Tobago to Host Special CSME Meeting in December

Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago, OPM:  Trinidad and Tobago will host a Special Meeting of the Heads of Government of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) from December 3-4, 2018 which will focus on the CARICOM Single Market and Economy (CSME).  The regional initiative is the sole item for discussion on the agenda at the two-day meeting in Port of Spain.

Secretary-General highlights Region’s work against Gender-based Violence

As the Region joins the global observance of 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence, progress has been identified in the important area of data collection on discrimination and violence against women and children and the analysis of underlying causes.

SG calls for distinct CARICOM representation on ICAO

Caribbean Community (CARICOM) Secretary-General, Ambassador Irwin LaRocque on Wednesday called for a distinct CARICOM voice among the 36 seats on the International Civil Aviation Organisation’s Council.

Delivering remarks at the opening of the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) Air Transport Conference at the Guyana Conference Centre on 21 November 2018, the Secretary-General said CARICOM Member States, which are Members of ICAO represent a distinct geographical grouping and, “request a seat on that basis.”

CARICOM Secretariat to launch state of biological diversity report in Egypt

The Caribbean Community (CARICOM) Secretariat is set to launch, internationally, the recently released study report on the state of biodiversity management in the Caribbean.

The report will be launched in Egypt on 23 November to an international audience at a United Nations Environment (UN Environment) event, on the side-lines of the 14th Conference of Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD). The global summit on biological diversity is being held in Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt from 17-29 November 2018.

ICAO President arrives ahead of aviation conference

(Department of Public Information) As Guyana prepares to host the 2018 meeting of the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) on air transport, ICAO’s President Dr. Olumuyiwa Benard Aliu has arrived prepared to put his full support behind Guyana in the conference.

Speaking to the Department of Public Information (DPI) at the Cheddi Jagan International Airport (CJIA), Dr. Aliu said the has been much anticipated and is being held at the opportune time when aviation is rising.

Take control, include populace, make projects bankable – Energy Experts at CSEF VI

Take full control of the development of renewable energy (RE) in the Region. Include the general populace in the dialogue and processes that will lead to the further development of the sector. Make RE projects bankable.

Those were some of the key takeaways from Day One of the Caribbean Sustainable Energy Forum (CSEF) VI now underway at the Belize Ocean Club in Placencia. The Forum is being held under the theme ‘Clean Energy, Good Governance & Regulations.
