“EU’s assistance crucial… to sustainable development”  CARICOM/CARIFORUM SG

CARICOM and CARIFORUM Secretary-General, Ambassador Irwin LaRocque, in his remarks at the launch of the Tenth EDF CARIFORUM Crime and Security Programme, on 17 January 2017, in Barbados, pointed to the “strength of cooperation” between the European Union (EU) and the Caribbean.

Calling the EU a “long standing and staunch partner” in the Region’s thrust to attain sustainable development, Ambassador LaRocque said “its [EU] assistance has been crucial…”

CARICOM and Georgia look to strengthen ties – new Georgian Ambassador accredited

The Republic of Georgia’s new Ambassador to CARICOM HE David Solomonia on Wednesday presented his credentials to CARICOM’s Deputy Secretary-General Ambassador Manorma Soeknandan at the Secretariat’s Headquarters in Georgetown, Guyana.

The Deputy Secretary-General noted that CARICOM is in the process of finalising a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Cooperation with Georgia, the purpose of which is to strengthen political, commercial, economic, environmental, technological, scientific, sport and cultural relations between the two parties.

Barbados, St Vincent and the Grenadines reaffirm commitment to CARICOM

Her Excellency Veronica Griffith, Plenipotentiary Representative of Barbados to CARICOM and His Excellency Allan Alexander, Plenipotentiary Representative of St. Vincent and the Grenadines to CARICOM were accredited by CARICOM Secretary-General, Ambassador Irwin LaRocque in a short ceremony at the Secretariat’s headquarters in Georgetown, Guyana.

The new Barbados Ambassador said her government endorsed the words of Right Excellent Errol Barrow in his last speech to the CARICOM Heads of Government in 1989 when he advocated:

CARICOM Secretariat launches Housing Protocol

The Office of the Deputy Secretary-General initiated the Launch of the CARICOM Secretariat Housing Protocol held on Thursday, 28 December 2017 at the CARICOM Secretariat’s Headquarters.  Those in attendance were landlords, property owners and real estate agents as well as the relative Secretariat Staff.

 

CARICOM records noteworthy successes in 2017 despite challenges

(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana) The more than US$2B pledged at the CARICOM-UN Conference for long-term recovery for hurricane-affected countries and the establishment of the regional renewable energy center are among the successes CARICOM recorded for 2017 in spite of the year’s challenges.

CARICOM, Cuba Heads to meet in Antigua

 

(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana)      Heads of Government of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) and the Republic of Cuba will hold the Sixth CARICOM-Cuba Summit in Antigua and Barbuda on Friday 8 December.

The Meeting will be co-chaired by the Chairman of CARICOM, Prime Minister Dr. Keith Mitchell of Grenada,  and the President of  Cuba, Raúl Castro.
