More than 13,000 new voters added to official list

ST GEORGE’S, Grenada, CMC – With Grenada gearing for a general election later this year, the Parliamentary Elections Office (PEA) says 13,900 names have been included on the official Voters List released here on Thursday.
The PEA said that people with complaints have until January 11 to submit them. 
In his New Year’s message, Prime Minister Tillman Thomas urged voters to ensure that they are properly registered to contest the polls constitutionally due no later than October.

China provides multi-million dollar grant to Grenada

ST. GEORGE’S, Grenada, CMC – China is providing more than US$4.8 million to Grenada under an economic and technical agreement, a government statement has said here. It said that the accord was signed by Finance Minister Nazim Burke and China’s Ambassador to Grenada, Xu Jianguo. “On behalf of the government, I wish to place on record our profound gratitude to the Government and people of the People’s Republic of China for its continued financial support in assisting us to meet the needs of our people,” Burke said.

Caribbean Airlines luring agro-exporters with new cargo deal

Regional air carrier Caribbean Airlines Limited (CAL) is looking to expand its air cargo lift out of Guyana; and is offering, as a promotional incentive to local agricultural exporters, a 15 per cent reduction in freight charges until the end of this year.

CARICOM media workshop underway in Grenada

St. George’s, July 27, 2010 (GIS) – Local and regional broadcasters and newspaper editors are meeting in Grenada to discuss the free movement of skilled persons and other issues related to the Caribbean Single Market and Economy (CSME)

This week’s workshop is organised by the Caribbean Community (CARICOM), which is trying to engage media workers in the attempt at “demystify the concepts of regional integration’’ and in spreading the positive messages and benefits of the CSME.

Grenada to receive additional ICT support from India

ST GEORGE'S, Grenada (GIS) -- India's High Commissioner-designate to Grenada, Malay Mishra, has pledged his country’s continued support to Grenada in the field of Information and Communication Technology (ICT).

“India attaches great importance to her relations with Grenada,” he explained. “Under India’s Economic and Technical Cooperation Programme (ITEC), India has continued to assist Grenada in its capacity building in the IT sector.”

(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana) The Core Team of the CARICOM Electoral Observer Mission arrived on 2 July 2008 followed by the rest of team on Friday, 4 July 2008 to monitor the General Elections on 8 July 2008. The Mission was deployed in all constituencies with the exception of Carriacou and Petite Martinique. The Mission would like to place on record that the group was able to cover 85 per cent of the polling stations in Grenada.

CARICOM LEADERS GO TO EUROPE FOR CRITICAL TALKS

(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana) Heads of Government of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) will be in Europe this week attending two Summit Meetings.

Seven of the leaders accompanied by Secretary-General of the Caribbean Community, His Excellency Edwin Carrington, will attend the Third CARICOM-Spain Summit in Madrid, Spain, on 10-11 May and the Fourth European Union (EU) – Latin American Caribbean (LAC) Summit in Vienna, Austria, on 12-13 May.

The formal opening of the Headquarters of the Community in this rich and diverse land is a particularly touching occasion for me personally. I had to be here. I am honoured that I have the privilege to speak to this august gathering.

It is a moment filled with nostalgia but I must resist the temptation simply to indulge in fond reminiscence.
