Gonsalves wants CAL talks by next week

May 21, 2013

PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad - Prime Minister of St Vincent and the Grenadines Dr Ralph Gonsalves has expressed hope that he can meet with Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar within the next week over the contentious fuel subsidy to State-owned carrier Caribbean Airlines Ltd (CAL) on competing routes with regional airline LIAT.
He expressed hope that he could have a meeting with her before he returns to this country on May 28 for the meeting with US Vice President Joe Biden, but he has not been able to “get a time organised”.
He noted on May 29 he is chairing a ministerial meeting of transport ministers of CARICOM in St Vincent and the Grenadines and one of the issues down for discussion “is the question of the unfair competition which CAL provides to LIAT on certain routes where CAL is receiving a subsidy”. http://www.trinidadexpress.com/news/Gonsalves-wants-CAL-talks-by-next-week-208239311.html
New chairman Marshall wants ‘clean’ CAL PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad - Finance Minister Larry Howai said yesterday new Caribbean Airlines (CAL) chairman Philip Marshall got the job because of his career experience, especially in Jamaica.
“He was the first chairman of the Corporate Governance Commission for the private sector in Jamaica and you know we have some challenges in Jamaica. Also, because of his background, he has experience generally dealing with turnaround situation,” Howai told the Express yesterday outside the Hyatt Regency (Trinidad), Port of Spain.
He noted that only the Trinidadian members of CAL’s board were removed, with Jamaican Denis Lalor as the only one retained, as he had been appointed by the Jamaican government.
