CARICOM DSG welcomes outgoing French Ambassador for farewell visit

(Caribbean Community (CARICOM) Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana) - On 29 July 2025, CARICOM Deputy Secretary-General, Dr. Armstrong Alexis welcomed His Excellency Nicolas de Lacoste, Plenipotentiary Representative of the Republic of France to CARICOM, for a farewell visit to the Secretariat Headquarters in Georgetown, Guyana.

Ambassador de Lacoste presented his credentials on 28 November 2022 and served as the fifth Plenipotentiary Representative of France accredited to the Community.

It is indeed a great pleasure for me to join you at this session between the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) and UNESCO taking place at its Thirty-Seventh General Conference.  I wish to express our appreciation to you, Director General, for affording the CARICOM delegations this opportunity to meet with you to discuss issues of specific importance to our Region.  I also wish, at the outset, to commend your excellent leadership of UNESCO, so eloquently expressed by the Executive Board in its nomination for you to serve a second term at the helm of the Organisation.

INTERPOL launches new technology to detect fraudulent travel documents in the Caribbean

LYON, France, CMC - The international police organization (INTERPOL), says it has launched a new tool enabling Caribbean countries to exchange information on fraudulent identity and travel documents. Known as Dial-Doc (Digital INTERPOL Alert Library Document), INTERPOL said that the technology, launched in collaboration with the Group of Eight of the world’s most industrialized powers (G8), “makes it easy for officials in any of INTERPOL’s 190 member-countries to check if a travel document is fake, through comparison with worldwide images of counterfeit documents.

CARIBBEAN-DRUGS-INTERPOL led operation seizes drugs in Caribbean

LYON, France, CMC – The world’s largest international police organization, known as INTERPOL, says nearly 30 tonnes of cocaine, heroin and marijuana with an estimated value of US$ 822 million have been seized in an operation targeting the maritime trafficking of drugs and illicit firearms by organized crime groups across Central America and the Caribbean.

Canada, France Congratulate CARICOM On Single Market

CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana)The Governments of Canada and France have expressed goodwill to the Heads of Government and people of the Caribbean following the formal launch of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) Single Market (CSM) on 30 January in Kingtson, Jamaica.

CARICOM AND FRENCH OVERSEAS DEPARTMENTS TO DISCUSS COOPERATION

  (CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana) Representatives of the Regional Councils of the French Overseas Departments in the Americas (DFA’s), the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) and the Caribbean Forum of Africa, Caribbean and Pacific (ACP) States (CARIFORUM) are meeting in Georgetown, Guyana, on Friday 17 February to discuss a framework for operational and functional cooperation.

The meeting comes as a follow-up to exchanges between the DFA’s and the CARIFORUM States last November in Martinique.
