(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana) Cleveland Forde of Guyana and Tonya Nero of Trinidad and Tobago copped the male and female titles at the 8th CARICOM 10k event run in Saint Lucia on Sunday 1 July.

Saint Lucia’s Minister of Sport and Youth Development, the Honourable Shawn Edwards in congratulating the winners and the participants at the prize giving ceremony after the race, said that he would work with everyone concerned to make the CARICOM 10k a major event on the regional sporting calendar.

In the male category, Richard Jones of Trinidad and Tobago finished second while defending champion Zepherinus Joseph of Saint Lucia was third. Among the ladies, Euleen Josiah-Tanner of Guyana was second while Kenisha Pascal of Grenada was third.

Mr Edwards presented the Chairman’s trophy and a cash prize to Mr Forde while Secretary-General of the Caribbean Community, Ambassador Irwin LaRocque presented the Secretary-General’s trophy and a cash prize to Ms Nero. More than 70 runners from including athletes from Grenada, Guyana, St Kitts and Nevis, St Vincent, Suriname and Trinidad and Tobago took part in the event which attracted sponsorship from Digicel Saint Lucia, Saint Lucia Electricity Services Ltd, Bank of Saint Lucia, Consolidate Foods Ltd, Bank of Nova Scotia, First Caribbean international Bank and Brydens Ltd.
