Finance ministers meet in Trinidad and Tobago

Aug 06, 2013

(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana)     Caribbean Community (CARICOM) Finance Ministers will meet on Wednesday 7 August in Trinidad and Tobago within the framework of the Fifteenth Meeting of the Council for Finance and Planning (COFAP).

High on the agenda is a follow-up discussion seeking to chart a framework for growth and development in CARICOM which engaged the Heads of Government at their meeting in Port of Spain last July. The Ministers will also discuss issues related to the CARICOM Financial Services Agreement, and the Intra-CARICOM Double Taxation Agreement.
On the international front, they would define a regional approach for compliance with the United States (US) Foreign Account Tax Compliance Act (FATCA) which was signed into law by US President Barrack Obama on March 18, 2010, to combat offshore tax evasion and recoup US federal tax revenue.
