Barbados, Jamaica removed from EU list of high-risk jurisdictions

Barbados and Jamaica are among countries that have been removed from the European Union's list of high-risk jurisdictions in the fight against international financial crimes.

The European Parliament on Wednesday delisted the two CARICOM Member States and several other countries. The European Commission had updated its list of jurisdictions last month. The list takes the legal form of a delegated regulation upon the imprimatur of the European Parliament.

Antigua registers 7% increase in tourist arrivals in July - CARICOM Business

Antigua and Barbuda has reported a 7% increase in tourist arrivals in July as the country continues to record a “steady rebound” in visitor arrivals in the wake of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic that had forced the closure of borders.

The Ministry of Tourism said during July, Antigua and Barbuda welcomed 24,673 visitors, an increase of 23,405 from the corresponding period last year and the 2019 record of 23,031.

LIAT looks to minimum revenue guarantees for viability - CARICOM Business

The Antigua and Barbuda government says every territory to which the cash-strapped regional airline, LIAT, flies to will be asked to purchase shares in the new company as efforts continue to revitalise the embattled airline.

In a statement, the Government noted that “in the proposed new LIAT, the
salaries, wages and other emoluments will take up a smaller part of its cost of operations. Currently, three aircraft are being utilised, as opposed to 10 aircraft before the collapse of LIAT.”

‘Looming’ issue of de-risking in Region remains high on CFATF agenda

Executive Director of the Caribbean Financial Action Task Force (CFATF), Calvin Wilson has said that de-risking or the loss of correspondent banking relations is looming largely across the Caribbean region because of what is being perceived by international financial institutions as “high-risk jurisdictions operating in a high-risk region.”
