(Caribbean Community (CARICOM) Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana) Prime Minister Mia Mottley of Barbados has made an urgent call for the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) to confront two mounting threats to the Region’s existence, the spread of fake news and the persistent challenge of citizen insecurity.

Outgoing Chair of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM), Prime Minister Mia Mottley of Barbados, closed out her six-month tenure with a rallying cry for regional solidarity and action in the face of global uncertainty.
Dr. the Most Hon. Andrew Holness, Prime Minister of Jamaica, and Chair of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM), has challenged the Region to think strategically and focus on the values of unity in the current global environment.
“Together, we have nurtured a strong Caribbean identity that transcends borders, that is admired globally, and to which others aspire. As we begin our deliberations for this Forty-Ninth Meeting of the Conference, I encourage of us to retain our focus on the purpose of our partnership, which is the prosperity, security and well-being of all the people of our Region.”
The Caribbean Community (CARICOM) extends condolences to the loved ones and colleagues of Rickey Singh, a Caribbean son of the soil and journalist par excellence, who passed away 5 July 2025 in Barbados.
For more than five decades, Mr. Singh, a Guyanese, served as a pillar of journalism in the Region. His unwavering dedication to his craft, and his sharp analyses and fearless pursuit of truth, earned him respect and admiration across the Region.
We have had a meaningful start to our Programme of Work for this 49th Regular Meeting, starting with the athletic prowess and community spirit demonstrated at the 18th CARICOM Road Race; the perspectives and cultural demonstrations of the Opening Ceremony; the technological advances highlighted at the Security Expo; and other important discourses in the margins of this Meeting, have cemented and celebrated our identity as a Region. It is evident that there is more that brings us together, than that which divides us.
Heads of Government and Heads of Judiciary of Member States of the Caribbean Community convened an important and historic Dialogue today at the Montego Bay Convention Centre in Montego Bay, Jamaica.
