CARICOM, UN, European Commission call for cooperation, partnerships amid global flux

(Caribbean Community (CARICOM) Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana) - Chair of CARICOM, Prime Minister Mia Amor Mottley of Barbados; CARICOM Secretary-General, Dr. Carla Barnett; United Nations (UN) Secretary-General, Antonio Guterres; and European Commission President, Ursula von der Leyen have underscored the need to work together amid current global flux.

CARIFORUM Regional Adolescent Training Workshops opens:  Drug Treatment and Rehabilitation critical to advance economic development

Caribbean Community (CARICOM) Secretariat Assistant Secretary-General (ASG), Dr. Douglas Slater, emphasised the critical link between human resource development and economic development and, in this regard, the importance of treatment and rehabilitation for persons with problematic drug use and misuse. The ASG was speaking at the Opening of the Regional Adolescent Training Workshop earlier today, in Trinidad and Tobago.

CARICOM and CARIFORUM Secretary-General, Ambassador Irwin LaRocque, in his remarks at the launch of the Tenth EDF CARIFORUM Crime and Security Programme, on 17 January 2017, in Barbados, pointed to the “strength of cooperation” between the European Union (EU) and the Caribbean.

Calling the EU a “long standing and staunch partner” in the Region’s thrust to attain sustainable development, Ambassador LaRocque said “its [EU] assistance has been crucial…”
