Energy Roundtable underway at CARICOM Secretariat

A Roundtable to define the potential role that Guyana’s energy sector could play in regional energy affairs is underway at the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) Secretariat in Georgetown, Guyana. The Roundtable is a joint initiative of the Secretariat, through its Energy Programme, and the Guyana Energy Agency (GEA) with support from the GIZ’s Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Technical Assistance (REETA) programme.

Guyana’s pursuit of a green economy, the imminent transformation of its economy via oil and gas and the Region’s Energy Policy that promotes a shift to sustainable energy through increased use of renewable energy and energy efficiency are under discussion. The engagement wraps up the observance of CARICOM Energy Week which is held in November.

Among the participants at the half-day forum are representatives of the Ministry of the Presidency of Guyana, the Ministry of Public Infrastructure of Guyana, the GEA, the Guyana Power and Light Company, the Trinidad and Tobago Energy Chamber, the Caribbean Development Bank,  the German Agency for International Cooperation,the Japan International Cooperation Agency, the U.S. Embassy in Guyana, the Inter-American Development Bank.
