Electronic Information Must Get Priority Security Treatment

Jul 02, 2014

It is important that we pay attention to the way we manage electronic data says Pierre Bowrin, ICT Policy Advisor, Department of Information Technology.

Speaking at the end of a recent two-day workshop on information security, he pointed out that, “information is now the most critical resource of any company or organization, and we need to give it the priority it deserves.”

Bowrin said that the workshop was intended to help ensure the public sector is equipped to protect valuable information and for the Federation to meet the highest international standard of information security.

Starret Greene, the Organization of American States Representative to St. Kitts and Nevis, said that there is growing skepticism toward developing states and a perception of technological vulnerability. Such countries must engage in the global dialogue to improve the standard of information technologies.

He indicated that recent revelations about the extensive nature of Internet surveillance signify the need for debate about adopting stronger international electronic safeguards. “Small countries become part of this important dialogue in order to protect their multiple interests.”

The Department of Information Technology partnered with the OECS Electronic Government for Regional Integration Project (EGRIP) and the Organization of American States (OAS) to deliver the workshop.
