At this year’s CARIFESTA XIII hosted in Barbados, the Caribbean Export Development Agency (Caribbean Export) will be facilitating the participation of designers and artisans from across CARIFORUM within their Design Caribbean and Caribbean Essence export promotion platforms.
Cooperation between the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) and the United Nations (UN) System will be further strengthened around several issues including climate change, security, human development, health and education at the Ninth CARICOM-United Nations General Meeting this week.
The two-day meeting begins 20 July 2017 at the United Nations Headquarters in New York. It is happening against the backdrop of a changing international environment, replete with uncertainty and complexity, and requiring greater collaboration.
Prime Minister of Barbados, the Hon. Freundel Stuart, on Wednesday stressed that private sector development in the Caribbean remained pivotal and suggested that exporters must continue to be empowered to penetrate global markets. It is a pleasure for Grenada to be Chairing the Thirty-Sixth Meeting of the Council for Trade and Economic Development (COTED).
Colleague Ministers, our Community is at yet another defining epoch in our development. Indeed, there is much skepticism among segments of our stakeholder groups, which has often-times weakened the case for the work of the COTED.
We must do two things through the important work at this 36th COTED:

And, of course, you have arrived in style – to take up your place as Chairman of this Council.
