ROSEAU, Dominica, CMC – The main opposition United Workers Party (UWP) gearing for a general election that Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit has hinted could come before the constitutional deadline, has elected talk show host Lennox Linton as its new leader.
Former Prime Minister Edison James said that the party had already selected a significant number of its candidates for the elections. In the December 18, 2009 general elections Skerrit’s Dominica Labour Party (DLP) won by an 18 of the 21 seats.
Linton, who was elected un-opposed at the party’s 26th annual convention on Sunday, promised a UWP administration would implement new socio-economic policies that would include “an economic development strategy promised on sustainable, innovative utilization of our natural resources.”
