STATISTICAL CAPACITY BUILDING FOR THE PRODUCTION OF KEY STATISTICS IN THE CARIBBEAN COMMUNITY
This publication outlines the CARICOM Secretariat’s comprehensive regional programme to strengthen the production, harmonisation, and dissemination of official statistics across Member States and Associate Members. The publication details coordinated initiatives designed to enhance data quality, comparability, and timeliness in support of evidence-based policymaking and regional integration.
The document highlights strategic interventions in core statistical domains, including Population and Housing Censuses, Merchandise Trade, National Accounts, International Trade in Services, Social and Environment Statistics, and Information and Communication Technologies (ICT). It further describes the development of common methodological frameworks, regional training workshops, technical assistance missions, and the establishment of harmonised data submission protocols and web-based reporting systems.
Through partnerships with international development agencies and regional stakeholders, the programme advances methodological standardisation, strengthens national statistical systems, and supports the monitoring of economic, social, and environmental indicators critical to the CARICOM Single Market and Economy (CSME). The publication provides a clear overview of the institutional arrangements, funding mechanisms, and collaborative structures underpinning statistical development within the Community.
