Two events to be held in St. Kitts next week have as their goal to educate the general public about the CARICOM Single Market and Economy (CSME) with respect to the free movement of labour.
The Ministry of International Trade has planned a CSME Free Movement of Labour Sensitization Workshop to run from March 10-11, 2016, at the Ocean Terrace Inn (OTI), and a Public Sensitization Forum on the CARICOM Skills Certificate on March 10, 2016, at 6:00 pm at the University of the West Indies Open Campus, Fortlands, Basseterre. The guest presenter for the forum is Ms. Gladys Young, CSME Representative from Barbados.
Director of Trade and Research in the Ministry of International Trade, Industry, Commerce and Consumer Affairs, Mrs. Jasemin Weekes, said that as the Focal Point for CARICOM affairs “we have recognized that very few of our nationals apply for their CARICOM Skills Certificate, while on the other hand non-nationals continue to apply making themselves available for opportunities in the region.”
 
Discussions over the two days will include the process of applying for a CARICOM Skills Certificate, the requirements and who qualifies.
 
The Ministry of Trade is hoping to engage qualified persons who have an interest in moving through the region whether temporarily or permanently to provide a service, to be employed, to establish a business or to move, sell their good/products within the CSME.
