CARICOM reviewing regional telecommunications environment

The Hon. Dickon Mitchell, Prime Minister of Grenada, will lead a review of the telecommunications environment in the Region. Prime Minister Mitchell is Lead Head of Government with responsibility for Science and Technology in the CARICOM Quasi Cabinet.

Barbados Public Sector exposed to Community Public Procurement Notice Board

Approximately fifty public sector officers in Barbados were this week shown processes on the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) Public Procurement Electronic Notice Board. The engagement was held on Monday and Tuesday, 12-13 November and was geared towards assisting the procuring entities across the public sector and state-owned public sector organisations to initiate use of their National Advertising Portal to publish procurement opportunities and contract award notices.

Implementation Plan for the CSME 2017-2019

The Caribbean Community (CARICOM) has taken steps to accelerate the use of the measures under the CARICOM Single Market and Economy (CSME). The Conference of Heads of Government in July 2017, approved the Implementation Plan for the CSME 2017-2019 which coincides with the CARICOM Strategic Plan (2015-2019).

The Plan is a comprehensive document which details the level of implementation of measures called for by the Revised Treaty of Chaguaramas or decisions taken by Community Organs.

  • Informs of the recent study on Non-Tariff Measures (NTM) and Non-Tariff Barriers (nTB), and their impacts on intra-regional agri-food trade.
  • Clarifies, in a concise manner, the context of this long-standing issue and the difference between nTMs and nTBs.
  • Calls for consensus on the need for, and  type of concerted actions to be taken to ‘systematically dismantle’ as opposed to ‘eliminate’ these nTBs within CARICOM.

Issues impacting lives of CARICOM Citizens get attention at COFAP Meeting in Barbados

CARICOM Finance and Planning Ministers were meeting in Barbados Tuesday to advance a number of development initiatives geared towards enhancing the use and operation of the Single Market and Economy.

It is the sixth Special Meeting of the Council for Finance and Planning (COFAP) and was convened under the Chairmanship of Antigua and Barbuda’s Prime Minister and Minister of Finance Mr Gaston Browne.
