CARICOM diversifying, widening links in response to global changes – Secretary-General

The Caribbean Community (CARICOM) is diversifying and widening its foreign policy thrust in response to shifts in balance of powers as well as the dynamic and fluid changes taking place in the global environment.

While it was both challenging and necessary, the Community has also acknowledged and responded accordingly to the management of shared problems in an interdependent world, in the formulation and coordination of its foreign policy.

CARICOM accredits new Mexican envoy

(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana)     The Caribbean Community (CARICOM) and the United Mexican States on Wednesday solidified diplomatic relations with the accreditation of His Excellency, Ivan Roberto Sierra-Medel, at the Headquarters of the CARICOM Secretariat, Georgetown, Guyana.

African Union Commission seeks best practices from CARICOM Secretariat

Secretary-General of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) Ambassador Irwin LaRocque has described as “important and historic” a working visit to the Secretariat’s headquarters by a team from the African Union Commission (AUC).

The three-day visit, which began on Wednesday, forms part of a comparative study of various multilateral and inter-governmental organisations being conducted by the AU delegation.

OAS and GECOM sign Observer Mission agreement for elections

The Organization of American States (OAS) and the Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM) have signed an agreement on the Electoral Observation Process of the 2015 General and Regional Elections.

The agreement was compiled by the OAS. The signing took place on Wednesday when the OAS Chief of Mission, Ms. Lisa Shoman visited GECOM Secretariat and held discussions with GECOM officials.

The agreement outlines the conditions under which the OAS will execute its electoral observation exercise, before, during and after the conduct of the May 11 General and Regional Elections.

Several agreements reached as historic Summit of the Americas ends

Perry Christie having addressed the second plenary session. The summit was historic because of Cuba’s presence for the first time.
