Costa Rica has committed to finding common ground with the Caribbean Community on global climate change positions.

Call for more political dialogue between CARICOM and EU

The need for greater political dialogue and co-operation between the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) and the European Union was emphasised as the new EU Ambassador to CARICOM presented his credentials yesterday.

CARICOM Secretary-General Ambassador Irwin LaRocque noted that co-operation could be further enhanced by increasing the political dialogue while EU Ambassador Mikael Barfod spoke of the need to strengthen the political co-operation. They were speaking at the presentation ceremony at the headquarters of the CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Guyana.

No Plan B for Climate Change

Climate Change and sustainable development “are vital issues for the planet” according to Belgian Ambassador Guy Sevrin.

“There is no plan B for Climate Change,” the Ambassador said in his remarks as he presented his credentials as his country’s Ambassador to the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) on Wednesday to Secretary-General Ambassador Irwin LaRocque. Speaking at the Secretariat’s Turkeyen, Guyana headquarters, he said that all countries must work together to save the planet from disaster.

 The Second India – Caribbean Community (CARICOM) Ministerial Meeting was held in New York on September 30, 2015 in the margins of the 70th session of the UNGA.  The Minister of External Affairs, Ms. Sushma Swaraj, led the Indian delegation and the  Hon. Alva Baptiste, Minister External Affairs, Trade and Civil Aviation of Saint Lucia, led the CARICOM delegation.  The meeting was attended by all CARICOM Member countries.

CARICOM, India Ministers meet in New York

Minister of Foreign Affairs and Aviation of St. Kitts and Nevis, the Hon. Mark Brantley on Thursday joined his counterparts from CARICOM and India for the Second CARICOM-India Joint Ministerial Meeting in New York. The meeting was co-chaired by the Hon. Alva Baptiste of Saint Lucia, and the Hon. Swaraz Shushma of India. Minister Brantley was accompanied by Mr. Samuel Berridge, Counsellor at the Permanent Mission of St. Kitts and Nevis to the United Nations.

“Costa Rica from the Caribbean” initiative to strengthen ties

The Caribbean is a priority for my government, for this reason I launched the initiative called: Costa Rica from the Caribbean, for the development of the costarican Caribbean coast. This proposal brings together a number of projects agreed between the private productive sector, social organizations, local governments and other public institutions for the well being of all. This initiative is framed in the context of our common environment: The Caribbean sea.

St. Kitts and Nevis envoy to CARICOM accredited

His Excellency Lionel Sydney Osborne, Ambassador of St. Kitts and Nevis to the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) on Tuesday presented his letters of credence to Ambassador Irwin LaRocque, CARICOM Secretary-General. The credentials ceremony was held in the Office of the Secretary-General, CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana.
