Regional Climate Centre established in Barbados

Barbados is now home to the first Regional Climate Centre (RCC) in the western hemisphere.

The centre, which is housed at the Caribbean Institute for Meteorology and Hydrology (CIMH) in Husbands, St James, was financed to the tune of US$5 million by the United States Agency for International Development.

United States Ambassador to Barbados and the Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States Linda Taglialatela noted the importance of having such a centre in the region.

CIMH and Sutron Corporation partner to help Caribbean nations build climate resilience

(Bridgetown, Barbados) -- National Meteorological and Hydrological Services (NMHSs) from across the Caribbean are now better equipped and trained to monitor climate in the region, thanks to a series of training workshops co-hosted by the Caribbean Institute for Meteorology and Hydrology (CIMH) and international environmental and hydrological monitoring company Sutron Corporation.

Caribbean Institute for Meteorology and Hydrology (CIMH)

The Caribbean Meteorological Institute was established in 1967 by the member states of the Caribbean Meteorological Organisation (CMO). It was amalgamated with the Caribbean Operational Hydrological Institute (COHI) in the mid-1980s to form the Caribbean Institute for Meteorology and Hydrology (CIMH), but the name was only officially changed in September 1999 to reflect the dual role of the Institute.
