CDB supports Grenada fishing industry, puts spotlight on safety at sea

ST. GEORGE’S, Grenada – For people who work at sea, an injury or accident while on the job could mean huge losses for them—and their families. In Grenada, where the fishing industry has experienced positive growth since 2012, but where most seafarers operate without formal training or certification, the impacts could be even more devastating.

CARDI, CDB host black Sigatoka disease training workshop in Guyana

The Caribbean Agricultural Research and Development Institute (CARDI) in collaboration with the Caribbean Development Bank (CDB) will be hosting a workshop on the ‘Integrated Disease Management of black Sigatoka disease (BSD)’ from 28 September – 9 October, 2015, in Guyana. The workshop will take place at the National Agricultural Research and Extension Institute (NAREI), Agriculture Road, Mon Repos, and will be facilitated by plant pathologist Dr. Robert Power.

The third ServSafe Food Safety Training and Certification Workshop facilitated by the Caribbean Development Bank’s (CDB) Technical Cooperation Division, through its programme, the Caribbean Technological Consultancy Services Network, is slated to take place from September 15-18, 2015 in Guyana.

CDB, Agri Ministry in drive to boost aquaculture

THE Caribbean Development Bank (CDB) recently hosted a workshop for staff of the Ministry of Agriculture as it seeks to support the advancement of the aquaculture sector in Guyana.
From August 17 to 21, 2015, CDB conducted a workshop on aquaculture farm management techniques for ministry employees – a training initiative that aims to revitalise the sector and improve the livelihoods of aquaculture entrepreneurs. 

In Montserrat, CDB Paves the Way for Better Access to Basic Services

For many years, the residents of Barzey’s Village in Montserrat had just a small gravel road connecting them to schools, public transportation and jobs.

Soil erosion and heavy rainfall made road conditions worse. As a result, residents didn’t have regular garbage pickups and when there was an emergency, it was hard for health and fire services to get into their neighbourhood.

CDB makes Emergency Relief Grant Available to Dominica

The Caribbean Development Bank, CDB, has announced that an Emergency Relief Grant of USD 200,000 is being made immediately available to the Government of Dominica in the wake of Tropical Storm Erika. Heavy rains from Erika impacted the island on Thursday causing loss of life and widespread devastation.

CDB meets with Haiti’s Minister of Commerce and Industry to Discuss EPA/CSME Projects

Port-au-Prince – Edward Greene, Division Chief of the Technical Cooperation Division of the Caribbean Development Bank (CDB)  held talks yesterday with the Minister of Commerce and Industry of Haiti that were described as both “frank and productive”. In addition, Greene met with a senior official of CARIFESTA, the Caribbean Festival of the Arts, and affirmed the Bank’s commitment to support of the creative arts.  Haiti is playing host to CARIFESTA XII from August 21-30.

Caribbean Focused On Planning And Preparing For Bankable Renewable Energy Projects

Representatives of Caribbean businesses along with financiers and government officers in the clean energy sector will get a better understanding of how to plan and prepare for bankable projects in renewable energy and energy efficiency this week. Some 30 project owners, developers, funders, financiers and consultants from several Caribbean countries are attending a Regional workshop on Financing Tools and Approaches for Sustainable Energy Projects.

CDB advances climate change and disaster risk management of member countries

BRIDGETOWN, Barbados -- The Caribbean Community (CARICOM) agenda for reducing risks and building resilience in the region got a much-needed boost recently. Twenty-three disaster risk management and community development professionals from 15 countries gathered at the headquarters of Caribbean Development Bank (CDB) for an intensive five-day workshop on project design and implementation organised by Community Disaster Risk Reduction Fund (CDRRF). 

CDB Finances Training for Caribbean Water Sector Professionals

Senior Water Sector professionals from across the Caribbean will meet on August 23 – 24 to identify better ways of planning for the impact of climate change on the region’s water supply and systems.

The meeting, co-hosted by the Caribbean Development Bank (CDB), takes the form of a workshop entitled “Building a Climate Resilient Water Sector in the Caribbean: Strategies for Water Utilities.” It will be held at the Intercontinental Hotel in Miami, Florida, USA.
