CDB Statement on International Women’s Day

This year marks significant milestones in the global development agenda, including the 20th anniversary of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action and the adoption of a new sustainable development agenda to replace the existing Millennium Development Goals.  There is growing consensus that Gender Equality and Women’s Empowerment will be even more crucial to this new agenda; reaffirming the commitment to inclusion, dignity and respect for women and to valuing their assets and abilities; as the foundation of economic development and poverty reduction.

Good morning ladies and gentlemen .
All protocols observed. It is my pleasure to share some thoughts with you all this morning at the opening of this Special First Meeting of Directors of Gender Bureaux.
The Bank is particularly encouraged to see the decisive steps being taken by the CARICOM Secretariat towards a Plan of Action on Gender Equality aligned with the transformative agenda for the region, agreed by the CARICOM Heads of Government.

Trinidad Receives $40 Million CDB Loan for Energy Policy Changes

Trinidad and Tobago has received a $40 million policy-based loan from the Caribbean Development Bank to help reinforce “policy changes” in the energy sector, the bank announced.

The policy relates to a sustainable energy programme on which Trinidad embarked in 2011.

US$10M set aside for eighth cycle of CDB’s Basic Needs Trust Fund

The Board of Directors of the Caribbean Development Bank has approved US$10 mn from the Special Development Fund for the eight cycle of the Basic Needs Trust Fund (BNTF 8). This decision was made at the 264th meeting of the Board, held Thursday December 11 at the Bank’s headquarters in Barbados.

MSMEs to Receive assistance with Management Accounting Systems from CDB

While Caribbean countries have made consistent progress in expanding the coverage of drinking water services, there are gaps that need to be filled to improve access, delivery and quality.  The Caribbean Development Bank (CDB) along with partners have been working closely with leaders in the water sector from 16 countries to equip them to lead necessary reform in the sector.

CARIFORUM and EU discussing projects for funding

BRIDGETOWN, Barbados, Oct 28, CMC – The Steering Committees of the CARICOM Single Market Economy (CSME) and CARIFORUM-EU Economic Partnership Agreement (EPA) Standby Facilities are considering proposals for eight projects for funding.

The two-day meeting, which begins here on Tuesday, is being held at the Barbados-based Caribbean Development Bank (CDB). The Steering Committees comprise representatives of European Commission, The Guyana-based Caribbean Community (CARICOM) Secretariat and senior public servants.

PM Douglas chairs Special Meeting of CDB in Barbados

BASSETERRE, ST. KITTS, OCTOBER 20TH 2014 (CUOPM) – St. Kitts and Nevis’ Prime Minister the Right Hon. Dr. Denzil L. Douglas has chaired a Special Meeting of the Board of Governors of the Caribbean Development Bank  (CDB).
The Meeting in Bridgetown, Barbados, reviewed CDB’s 2015 – 2019 strategic plan.
The Governors first reviewed the draft in May at the Annual Board of Governors’ meeting held in Georgetown, Guyana and provided additional feedback during the recent discussion.
